Introducing the 2022 Scholarship Winner!
After a number of applications were received from wonderful and talented candidates, Dr. Krochak has made his selection for the 2022 winner. He chose Yanet Olvera, a student at Palomar College. She was chosen for her passion and commitment to the field of dentistry.
More About the Candidate, Yanet Olvera
Yanet first became interested in dentistry at a young age when she was self-conscious about her smile and teeth. She saw the difference in the way she felt about herself after receiving many years of orthodontic treatment.
As the first member in her family to pursue higher education, Yanet often felt confused and overwhelmed when thinking about a career path. She was reintroduced to the profession of dentistry when she decided to take some dental prerequisite courses after feeling like she was lacking direction. These courses lit a spark, and Yanet found a sense of belonging. She continued to pursue dentistry in school and through working at a non-profit community clinic. She has seen the ins and outs of the dental field, and it continues to provide that sense of belonging Yanet was looking for in her early college days.
In Yanet’s application letter, she explains why she wants to work in the dental field. She states, “I am passionate about inspiring, educating, and helping my community.” She goes on to further explain, “Now I am more motivated than ever to continue pursuing my education. Because of the challenges I have faced up until now, I can handle situations maturely and have grown and learned how to face challenges.”
We want to offer our congratulations to Yanet Olvera and wish her the best of luck!
